Best of the Week #23

It’s my final funemployment Friday! These two weeks flew by, and I’ve been very productive. Kinda sad that my stay-cation is officially over…but I’m really excited to start my new job on Monday!

I kicked off the day with a kick-in-the-pants salubrious* super early morning tempo run. (Running in the morning again - this is craziness! Next thing you know I’ll be blogging about how I don’t like cake anymore and have decided to do a raw vegan diet…HA. Just kidding - not likely!)

Anywho, just to give you an idea of life from where I’m sitting:
Miles run: 7.5
In my cup: Peet’s coffee with milk and one sugar.
In my bowl: Oatmeal with apples, candied ginger, and walnuts.
Listening to: Zac Brown Band, per usual.
Day plans: Get keys copied, study for the GREs on the roof, install new refrigerator (ahem, well, I'll be there when the delivery people come to install it), bake something (maybe? What should I make? I'm open to suggestions!)
Night plans: Authentic Chinese food in Rockville with LLC and her roommates - bring on the hot peppers!

Happy Friday – life is pretty wonderful!

As for the Best of the Week, my most popular post this week was Track Etiquette. I'm glad people are reading it, because that info is important!

My BOTW posts have been shorter recently…that’s because when I’m not in front of a computer all day my internet-time-habits change. Haha, love this Bermuda Triangle of Productivity – so true! (source)

The Newbie sent me a link to an excerpt from Paul Theroux’s new book,  The Tao of Travel: Enlightenments from Lives on the Road. (I’ve reviewed two books by Theroux: The ElephantaSuite, and Dark Star Safari.)
It is hard to be a stranger. A traveler may have no power, no influence, no known identity. That is why a traveler needs optimism and heart, because without confidence travel is misery. Generally, the traveler is anonymous, ignorant, easy to deceive, at the mercy of the people he or she travels among. The traveler might be known as “the American” or “the Foreigner,” and there is no power in that.
"Wal-Mart is coming to an African country near you!" (South Africa). Read about it here.

Here’s a super-cool Arab Spring infographic (ht Blattman). It's an interactive timeline of the events in the Middle East/North Africa - super cool!

Also from Blattman, Tina Fey: A Prayer For My Daughter. This is hilarious, as is everything from Tina Fey. Read it all, here’s an excerpt:
Dear God…Lead her away from Acting but not all the way to Finance. Something where she can make her own hours but still feel intellectually fulfilled and get outside sometimes and not have to wear high heels.
What would that be, Lord? Architecture? Midwifery? Golf course design? I’m asking You, because if I knew, I’d be doing it, Youdammit.
May she play the Drums to the fiery rhythm of her Own Heart with the sinewy strength of her Own Arms, so she need Not Lie With Drummers.

I had a roommate in college who was terrified of babies - she liked kids, but claimed that babies were a creepy cross between an alien and a monkey...so this one's for Katherine!

If you’re in the DC area, I strongly recommend you go on the Dupont Kalorama Museum Walk (Saturday and Sunday). Those few DC museums that usually charge admission are free this weekend! You must see the Phillips Collection– gaze at Luncheon of the Boating Party – it’s one of my favorites!

Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

*Salubrious - adj. health-giving; healthy
