Going to India

Operation Mollie and Bridget Do India is about to commence! This is it…my last post before I go. Are you excited??? BECAUSE I AM!

I can’t wait for that blissful moment when I settle into my seat on the plane, leaving behind  all “real life” commitments, and head out on an adventure in which my only responsibilities are keeping myself alive and having fun. It will, inevitably, be awesome.

Sister2 and I are traveling for 2 weeks.

We have a tentative plan…an outline stating where we want to go and approximately how long we want to stay in each place: We’ll start in Bangalore.

Take an overnight bus to Goa.

Fly to Delhi.

Drive to Agra.

Then to Jaipur.

Then back to Delhi and up to Manali.

India has been on my to-travel list since long before I became Africa-obsessed. I’ve read so much about the country, including books by Vikram Seth, Rohinton Mistry, Kiran Desai, Paul Theroux, and Salman Rushdie

And the food is going to be aaaamazing! I consider Indian Buffet one of my hobbies. Can you imagine how totally psyched I am to embark on what very likely will be 2 weeks of Indian buffets???

Southern cuisine is the spiciest and usually includes rice. Goan food is known for its Portuguese influences. North Indian food is all about breads (think roti) and thick and creamy curries. According to Wikipedia, "Sweet dishes are never referred to as 'dessert' in Rajasthan [We're going to Jaipur in Rajasthan], because unlike desserts which are had after the meal, Rajasthani sweets are had before, during and after the meal." Yes please!

Unfortunately I won’t be running. The River to Sea Relay race sufficiently ruined any and all anti-injury efforts I expended through July (but it may have been worth it...the race was really fun!). Sigh. Stupid me. But at least I conveniently time my stupidity – an intense traveling experience in a completely unknown place is probably a good time for a running break.

I don’t know about blog updates during this time…I’m bringing a notebook to record the trip, and will try to update Eat Run Read from internet cafes whenever possible.

Wish me luck!
